Hello,

November is here and it seems like time just flew by. Soon hectic days will be upon us with the holiday season. Before you loose track of time, take a look at what you need to learn to continue to succeed in your business.

This month’s newsletter will focus on Training and Development.

We frequently hear these terms. The terms go hand in hand. Why, you ask?

Training and Development is lifelong learning! When discussing training; the focus is learning a particular skill. The focus of development is what you as a person can learn to better yourself.

Both are vital to the success of the small business owner. The following articles will provide direction in meeting the training and development needs of your business.

For the Business Owner

What do you need to do to help learn your business?

There are many ways a business owner can continue with training and development. Some ways are to:

  • Read, Read, Read
  • Attend Trade Shows
  • Network, Network, Network
  • Join an Organization
  • Attend a Conference or Seminar

Learning opportunites abound for you and your small business! Don't sit back and wait for them to come to you, look and find them! Learning opportunities are everywhere!

For the Employee

Do you have employees? How are you helping them to grow and learn?

In a business there are many reasons for training. These reasons range from new-hire training about your operation, to introducing a new concept to a workgroup to bringing in a new computer system.

But how do you know if training is needed? Start by assessing your needs. Determine what type of learning is needed. Ask yourself:

  1. Do you or your staff need to learn a new skill or upgrade your skills?
  2. Is your business lacking the expertise in a certain area?
  3. Do you or your employees need to learn ways to interact more effectively with each other? With customers?

Whatever the reason for conducting training, you need to develop a comprehensive, ongoing and consistent training plan. This training plan is essential in keeping your staff motivated about learning new concepts and keeping your business profitable.

Once you have created your training plan; you will be able to determine if you can provide the training yourself, need to get the training from an outside source or have the training brought to you.

As a business owner with a training plan you have the ability to lead your business and employees into future growth and continual lifelong learning.
